William “Bill” R. Livingston, 81, of Joplin, died Wednesday July 20, 2022 at Joplin Gardens.
Bill was born October 26, 1940 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of the late Thomas C. Livingston and the late Mary (Waring) Livingston. He grew up in several different cities including; Tulsa, Independence and Joplin. He attended Joplin High School, then earned his master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Illinois. He then taught mathematics at Arkansas State University for several years before moving to Joplin. In 1968, he began teaching mathematics at Missouri Southern State College for 41 years, retiring in 2009. He continued for another year as a part-time professor before retiring fully in 2010. He has married the love of his life, Carol Swanson, on January 4, 1975, in Joplin, Missouri. Although they never had children together, they considered all of their pets to be their children. He was an avid reader. Bill enjoyed yard work, adult coloring pages, and cycling. He was a people person and loved talking to everyone he could. He enjoyed going to Sunday school and reading Bible stories to his class of 45, as well as coloring with them.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Livingston, of the house; a sister-in-law, Rita Swanson and her husband, Sam Lopp, of Joplin; three sisters, Sally Forrest and her husband, Bill Forrest, of Eldorado, Kansas, Becky Livingston, of Columbia, Missouri, and Jane Fiore, of Columbia, Missouri; one brother, Steve Livingston, of Arkansas City, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends for a visitation time August 4, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at Fellowship Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m.
