The 2022/23 home kit incorporates comfort, performance and the football club’s heritage at the forefront of its design. The home shirt’s patterned polo neck resembles some of the football club’s most memorable retro kits throughout history. The jersey is also a subtle nod to all the former greats, whose unique styles of play on and off the pitch have made their kit an icon in their own right.
In an official press release issued by two labels, Adidas Director Inigo Turner said of the new home shirt,
“The polo collar is synonymous with Manchester United. Up or down, he played a starring role in many of the club’s greatest moments.”
Inigo further talks about the 22/23 home kit and how it bought the essence of retro into the present,
“With such a rich history, we wanted to pay homage to some of the club’s most legendary kits and players, while capturing the essence of the house brought to the present day with a fresh perspective on the strong visual identity and designs that run through the club’s DNA.”
The latest authentic 22/23 home jersey is constructed entirely from Primegreen, which Adidas claims is made only from recycled materials. Along with Primegreen’s innovative engineering, the jersey further instills HEAT.RDY technology which helps players stay cool during performances.
HEAT.RDY technology helps regulate the wearer’s body temperature by wicking away sweat and easily maximizing airflow.
The replica version of the 22/23 home kit has similar amazing and innovative design features, which provide similar benefits to the genuine version. The replica instills Adidas’ latest AEROREADY – KEEP DRY technology, which helps the wearer stay cool by managing body sweat. The Manchester United website reads,
“Over the years, a number of United kits have featured polo collars, and many have cemented their status as cult classics. The collar is deeply rooted in the heritage of this great club, as are many legendary players who wore them, too.”
The site further explains what a jersey can mean to the wearer and the fans,
“You see, jerseys are so much more than the sum of their parts. They are moments in time and create memories that will be treasured forever.”
The home kit is inspired by the Manchester United archives, with a white collar on the shirt adorned with a geometric pattern. The collar references the symbolic ‘M’ detail, which was last seen on the iconic ‘Snowflake’ jersey from the 1990-92 season.
The jersey adopts a subtle pinstripe pattern in a bold tonal red colourway. Adidas branding is visible with the three stripe detailing on and across the shoulders.
On the left side of the front chest we see the iconic club crest, accompanied by the three stripe label logo. The new home shirt is set to make its debut on the pitch on July 12, 2022, when Erik ten Hag’s side take on Liverpool in Bangkok. The 2022/23 Goalkeeper Shirt will be launched in the United Store and CONFIRMED on Wednesday August 3, 2022.
One can enjoy the authentic 22/23 home jersey for a retail price of $121 and the replica version for $85, starting July 8, 2022, on the brand’s two official e-commerce sites.
