LUNENBURG — The staff of the Lunenburg Public Library is thrilled to announce two new programs, “A Book in a Bag” and “Popcorn and a Good Book,” both beginning this month.
“‘Book in a Bag’ will be available for first and second graders,” said Deb Laffond, Manager of Children’s Services, Lunenburg Public Library. “This first book club format for beginning book readers is designed as a prequel to our LPL Children’s Book Club.”
There will be no monthly gatherings, just reading and writing a simple review.
At the beginning of each month, 12 children can register and then go to the library to pick up their school bag, at any time during library opening hours and before the 10th of the month.
“In the binder that you keep, the children will find a library copy of the featured book of the month that will have to be returned, a snack, coloring pages, a riddle to solve, a book review sheet to fill in and return and an article surprise,” Laffond said. “Read the book, write your review, and drop it off at the library when you return your book.”
For children in 3rd and 4th grade, the library offers another option. Instead of popcorn and a movie, the library offers “Popcorn and a book”
“Once a month between the 1st and 10th of the month, children can sign up and pick up a kit containing a book by a star author, microwave popcorn and a few fun activity pages,” Laffond said. “Then pop your popcorn, included in the kit, spread a blanket on the floor, get cozy in a warm bed or build a reading fort of your own creation while you open the author’s book favorite – or maybe the one you’ve been meaning to try, but haven’t yet.
Registration for both events is required each month. To register or for more information, visit lunenburglibrary.org or call 978-582-4140.
