Stunning acrylic paintings celebrate the beauty of lions and tigers

Although the British artist Julie rhodes doesn’t live near the natural habitat of big cats, she celebrates the majestic beauty of lions and tigers in massive acrylic paintings. These lifelike works capture the many fine details of big cats, from their intricate fur patterns to their graceful figure and thick coats.

“Art is my passion and my obsession, I combine it with my love of the big cats to create paintings and pastels,” Rhodes told My Modern Met. “My mission is to capture every detail and give the viewer the experience of being in the room with a life-size lion or tiger. Many of my paintings are larger than life because I like to give them a sense of presence. “

Often, these paintings depict a close portrait of the predator surrounded by a solid black background. This stark contrast underlines the vividness of the cat’s coloring, especially in its luminous eyes. Other works show the entire body of the veiled animal in a hazy light, which Rhodes says is inspired by the natural lighting she experiences in her surroundings on the North Cornish coast.
