This year’s summer reading program at the Morton-James Public Library will be themed “Oceans of Possibilities,” and activities are scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 31.
Week one’s craft activity will be an egg carton aquarium, and kids can meet at the library on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. to do the craft in person. Take-home kits will also be available for kids who prefer to do crafts at home.
Craft activities will be as follows: June 7, Pirate Flag; June 14, clippable sea animal; June 21, Shark Book Page Craft; June 28, July 4 cup banner; July 5, making paper lollipops; and June 12, coloring and crosswords.
Reading journals will also be available beginning Tuesday, May 31 for K-12 students participating in the summer program.
Weekly programs will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, with hot air balloon animal adventures at the library.
The rest of the summer program will be as follows: Thursday, June 9, Talewise (science + storytelling) at the library; Thursday, June 16, animal encounters at the library; Saturday, June 25, Jeff Quinn Magic at Nebraska City Middle School, 909 1st Corso; Saturday July 2, July 4 celebration and historical activities at the library; Thursday July 7, Keith West and Miss Kitty the Library Lady at the library; and Saturday, July 16, summer closing party at the library. All weekly programs will start at 10 a.m.

The Morton-James Public Library will have a children’s corner at the Nebraska City Farmers Market on June 9 and 23, July 7 and 21, and August 11 and 25. Stories and a craft will be offered to the children present.
Summer Storytime for children 6 and under will take place on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The hour will include picture book readings, sign language or songs, and a craft.
Storytime will begin June 1 at the Steinhart Park Shelter and subsequent meetings will be held at the library. Themes will include June 8, Treasure; June 15, oysters; June 22, narwhals; June 29, July 4 and July 6, jellyfish.
Storytime will end on July 13 at the library with a guest reader from Keep Nebraska City Beautiful and an activity.
