Impressions of Saratoga celebrates ‘pawty’ birthday for dogs – Saratogian

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — Impressions of Saratoga, located at 368 Broadway, hosted a “pawty” birthday party on Saturday for the Impressions Pups, the dogs that have been a part of the store since its inception.

When Impressions first opened, there were only two dogs.

That number has since increased to five, and shoppers can usually see at least one each day. Smalls, Cookie, Smitty, Pupa and Thatcher all have birthdays between February and June, so Impressions celebrates them all with a big joint birthday in March. Saturday’s celebration was the eighth annual Impressions Pups Pawty.

“When we started this, we wanted to do something to boost business in the spring,” explained Impressions co-owner Maddy Zanetti. “Our two dogs at the time both had birthdays in the spring, so a ‘pawty’ dog birthday seemed like a fun idea. It gets people out and about with their dogs, and usually March is warm enough. so that people don’t hesitate to bring their dogs outside. This kicks off the preparation of our season for our Dog Day in May.

The birthday boy had a table full of treats for dogs and humans, as well as a dog-friendly scavenger hunt and entries for Impressions’ 18th annual coloring contest. Coloring pages are currently available from both Impressions and its sister store The Dark Horse Mercantile. They must be completed and returned by 6 p.m. on May 2 to be eligible for the contest. To return a completed coloring page, bring it to either location, mail it to 368 Broadway, Saratoga Springs NY, 12866, or email a photo to [email protected] com.

Canine treats for the pawty were provided by Darling Donuts and Dean’s Delicious Dog Treats. Darling Donuts made a batch of dog-friendly donut holes and provided a stash of dog pancakes they picked up at a trade show. Dean’s Delicious Dog Treats, owned and operated by 12-year-old Dean Barraclough, provided handmade dog biscuits. The dogs also had samples of “English Springer” and “Mutt Mocha” tea.

During the pawty, many dog owners brought their pets to chat, shop and of course get treats. A raffle was offered to anyone who brought in a completed treasure hunt map. Owners were asked to fill out a “puppy page” about their dogs and add it to the growing collection on a notice board. The store also accepted donations of dog supplies to donate to local shelters.

Whether there is a pawty or not, dogs are always welcome at Impressions of Saratoga and The Dark Horse Mercantile as long as they are well behaved and on a leash at all times. Zanetti thinks it’s important to have a place in town where dogs are as welcome as their owners.

“It puts people at ease,” she said. “It really creates a sense of community. People will come in to say hello, get water and a treat for their dogs, then maybe later they’ll come back to do their shopping.

Dog owner Bill Gervasio agrees. Her golden retriever Tanner, who is almost 4 years old, loves to socialize and go wherever he can. Tanner likes to walk down Broadway to meet people and make new friends. Gervasio describes him as “a permanent resident of Saratoga” who is “very sweet and friendly,” which is a typical personality profile for the golden retriever breed. It was Gervasio and Tanner’s first pawty, and they were both having a great time.

“We really like that,” commented Gervasio. “Tanner is having a lot of fun. It’s great to have a dog-friendly store like Impressions. We like to take Tanner to places, and he likes to go there. It makes us sad when we have to leave it behind. Being able to walk into a store with us makes her feel even more like part of the family.

Store employee Racheal Lavigne also enjoyed the day. It was also her first pawty, and she was happy to be a part of it.

“It’s really fun,” she said. “It’s becoming my favorite day of the year. I’ve met so many new dogs, and they’re all so cute!
