THE road to redesign is never easy, but a “juxtaposition hack” can make things easier.

A TikTok design expert thinks his method can make any space look luxurious, even with cheaper furniture.

You can buy fancy furniture or designer tableware, and the piece may be expensive, but it may not “look” expensive.

Julie Sousa is a master of DIY and interior decoration.

She posted a video on how to make an expensive dining room using just one hack.

There is a method to his madness, but you may not be able to see the vision right away.

Julie begins the video by saying, “Avoid matching dining sets because they’ll make your space look dated.”

Now you’re probably thinking that matching dining sets do the opposite.

If a table and chairs match, the room looks organized and put together.

But Julie disagrees and suggests mixing things up instead.

Rather than taking the coherent route, Julie says to take the juxtaposition route.

Julie’s juxtaposition hack is all about mixing and matching materials and textures.

In the video you see a large wooden dining table.

Julie explains that buying chairs made of the same material as the table doesn’t make the space feel expensive.

An expensive dining room might pair a set of green velvet chairs or circular chairs with a different color than the table.

Julie says, “It’s called juxtaposition, and it’s key to creating visually interesting pieces.”

Although they had never given it much thought before, viewers agreed that the matching dining set looked better.

A viewer had already made a similar design.

“Yes! People ask me why I don’t have a dining set. I have a barn wood table and chairs like chairs,” she says.
