In a recent interview with CBR, Darrow said that The Shaolin Cowboy: Cruel to be a parent will end some previously set story arcs in the world of The Shaolin Cowboy. ” Curiously, [the series is] In a way the end of a trilogy, “he said.” Something that started in the first book is ultimately linked to it. I won’t tell you what it is, but if you came back, maybe you would understand. I was very disturbed by some of the hatred towards people of color in the United States, and it has to do with the fact that in the end, the real bad guys are those white supremacists that he clashes with. I mean, there are still monsters and stuff. It’s not heavy — I mean, maybe it’s heavy. It’s still pretty crazy and clumsy. But the bad guys are hatemongers. This particular hatred manifests in a person who happens to be related to the character of this giant jellyfish. It’s pretty action-packed!”
