Ascension Sacred Heart in PCB Opens Pediatric Emergency Department


PANAMA CITY BEACH – Sick and injured children in Bay County will soon have better access to pediatric care, thanks to the expansion of pediatric emergency services at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay in Panama City Beach.

The expansion comes with close support from Studer Family Children’s Hospital to Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola, the area’s only children’s hospital. Each year, the PCB Ascension Sacred Heart Bay Emergency Department at 11111 Panama City Beach Parkway sees approximately 3,000 children under the age of 16.

To improve its care for children, the PCB campus will open on April 22 a pediatric emergency department, comprising three treatment rooms equipped with state-of-the-art equipment specially designed to diagnose and treat medical emergencies in children.

A new pediatric emergency department opens as part of the expansion of the Panama City Beach Ascension Sacred Heart Bay Emergency Clinic. As the only pediatric trauma referral center in Northwest Florida, Studer Family Children’s Hospital offers medical transportation services — including ground and air transportation — to bring critically ill and injured children to its hospital campus. in Pensacola.

“This is Studer Family Children’s Hospital’s fourth pediatric emergency department in Northwest Florida,” said Will Condon, president of Studer Family Children’s Hospital. “With this new pediatric emergency room in Panama City Beach, we are further improving access to health care for families of ill and injured children.”

Children needing follow-up care after a visit to the pediatric emergency department have access to Studer Family Children’s Hospital’s network of offices in Northwest Florida. This includes Pediatric Orthopedics, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Urology, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Pediatric Respirology, and Sleep Medicine.

Because coming to the ER is stressful for children and families, the team at PCB Hospital has worked to make the experience as child-friendly as possible with colorful murals, iPads for entertainment and coloring books, officials said.
